29th ANNUAL WINTERFEST –
A HUGE SUCCESS!!

On Sunday January 30th 2011 we had the 29th Annual Winterfest  at the Park.  As much as it was a little slow to get going throughout the course of the afternoon some 500 plus enthusiastic people travelled to and from the Park on what was one of the nicest days we have had for Winterfest.  Temperatures were a hair below freezing and it was sunny with virtually no wind.  All in all it made for a successful event and an enjoyable family outing.

According to some city officials Gourley Park has the best attended Public Park event in the city, which was a delight to hear given the work and effort put into it by all volunteers.  We would also like to thank all of you who came out to participate in making it the success that it has been and will continue to be.   For the last few years we have seen encouraging increases in attendance and interest for Pumpkinfest (Oct 23, 2011 this year) and Winterfest and we may explore the possibility of another Movie Night in the Park for late spring.

It is also a time where some city politicians attend.  This year our local M.P.  Chris Charlton was out once again to support the Park and answer any questions that may have been posed by you.  This is what she had to say about the Park after the event. “I'm always happy to be there. You and the exec do such an amazing job for your neighbourhood, and it ought to be celebrated and supported. I'm not sure people know how rare it is for an association to do so much for their community.  Thank YOU!!!!. “  Mayor Bob Bratina and our Councillor Terry Whitehead had also confirmed their attendance but had to excuse themselves due to an emergency meeting.  From your Executive’s position it is great to know that we have your support in attending and the support of the city to continue running these events.

Many thanks for your support.
